Competition Rules (2024)

(The decision of the Committee on interpretation of the rules is final)

1. GENERAL

1.1
(a) Competitions are open to all members and are held quarterly, annually or as specified.
(b) Entries are open subject unless otherwise specified.
(c) Entries shall be in one or more of the following formats:
(i) Print
(ii) Digital Image

1.2
(a) Entries shall be the sole work and copyright of the member.
(b) Entries constructed from Royalty or copyright free images when nobody owns the said right are prohibited.
(c) Wholly AI generated images are not allowed.
(d) AI assisted techniques such as sky replacement are allowed providing all components used are the sole work of the author.
(e) In cases where there is doubt about the authorship of images the competitions secretary reserves the right to request to see the original RAW files. If such a request is refused the image in question will be disqualified.
(f) Prints of a member’s images can be produced by commercial servicies / third parties.
(g) Any digital image:
(i) shall not be used twice except for those entered in to the Related Sets competition.
(ii) may be used to produce a print for the Annual Print competition.

1.3
Entries shall:
(a) Be made available to the Competition Secretary or deputy not less than 14 days before the event.
(b) Comply with appropriate rules or be disqualified.
(c) Not be more than 3 years old on the day of the competition unless otherwise specified.

1.4
All projected image and print competitions shall be marked out of 20 unless otherwise specified.


2. AWARDS

2.1
(a) The winner of a competition shall be awarded a trophy as identified.
(b) No trophy shall be won outright.
(c) Competition winners may purchase a plaque through the Competition Secretary.

2.2
The two trophies listed below shall be awarded to the member who has the highest aggregate score in the relevant competitions.
Overall DPI Worker – for all projected images.
Overall Print Worker – for all prints.


3. PRINTS

3.1
The reverse side of the print shall state the title of the image, the relevant competition including the section where relevant, and the year unless otherwise specified.

3.2
The mount sizes shall be for:
(a) All competitions: minimum 29.7cm by 21 cm (A4); maximum 50cm by 40cm.
(c) Prints may be any size not exceeding the mount size.
(d) Only framing tape may be used on the reverse of the mount (masking tape is not permitted).


4. DIGITAL IMAGES

All images submitted shall be:
(a) JPEG (.jpg)
(b) a maximum of 1600px wide and/or a maximum of 1200px tall whether or not the image is portrait or landscape (1600 x 1200px).
(c) Have a colour profile of sRGB IEC6 1966-2.1


5. ANNUAL PRINT

5.1
Lawrence Morrisey Challenge Shield – Monochrome
Flixton Shield – Colour

5.2
Entries to be limited to 3 per category per competitor.

5.3
Prints from film, slide or digital images may be home or trade processed in colour or monochrome.


6. QUARTERLY  DIGITAL
and PRINT

 6.1
Not more than 3 entries may be made per competitor per category in each quarter.

6.2
In the event of a club member being invited to judge , said judge and if applicable their spouse/partner, being automatically disqualified from entering into the round they are judging, will be allowed to enter 4 images into each category of the remaining 3 rounds.

6.3
The winner’s plaque for each category shall be retained for that quarter only.

6.4
Entries from this event shall be allowed to be submitted in the Annual Print competition.


7. RELATED SETS

The Trafford Shield

7.1 
A set will comprise of 6 digital images linked by a common theme, subject or narrative related to its title.

7.2 
Entries shall:
(a) be bookended by identical images containing the set title and thumbnails of the set in projection order.
(b) be limited to 2 sets per member
