Competition Rules (2018)

(The decision of the Committee on interpretation of the rules is final)

1. GENERAL

1.1
(a) Competitions are open to all members and are held quarterly, annually or as specified.
(b) Entries are open subject unless otherwise specified.
(c) Entries shall be in one or more of the following formats:
(i) Print
(ii) Digital Image

1.2
(a) Entries shall be the sole work and copyright of the member.
(b) Entries constructed from Royalty or copyright free images when nobody owns the said right are prohibited.
(c) Prints can be produced using commercial servicies.
(d) Any digital image:
(i) shall not be used twice except for those entered in to the Related Sets competition.
(ii) may be used to produce a print for the Annual Print competition.

1.3
Entries shall:
(a) Be made available to the Competition Secretary or deputy not less than 14 days before the event.
(b) Comply with appropriate rules or be disqualified.
(c) Not be more than 3 years old on the day of the competition unless otherwise specified.

1.4
(a) All projected image and print competitions shall be marked out of 20.


2. AWARDS

2.1
(a) The winner of a competition shall be awarded a trophy as identified.
(b) No trophy shall be won outright.
(c) Competition winners may purchase a plaque through the Competition Secretary.

2.2
The two trophies listed below shall be awarded to the member who has the highest aggregate score in the relevant competitions.
Presidents Prize – for all projected images.
Les Hughes Trophy – for all prints.


3. PRINTS

3.1
The reverse side of the print shall state the title of the image, the relevant competition including the section where relevant, and the year unless otherwise specified.

3.2
The mount sizes shall be for:
(a) All competitions: minimum 29.7cm by 21 cm (A4); maximum 50cm by 40cm.
(c) Prints may be any size not exceeding the mount size.
(d) Only framing tape may be used on the reverse of the mount (masking tape is not permitted).


4. DIGITAL IMAGES

All images submitted shall be:
(a) JPEG – 1600 wide x 1200 pixels high whether or not the image is portrait or landscape; and where one dimension is less, then the image must be on a black background to make the final file as above.
(b) Have a colour profile of sRGB IEC6 1966-2.1


5. ANNUAL PRINT

5.1
Lawrence Morrisey Challenge Shield – Monochrome
Flixton Shield – Colour

5.2
Entries to be limited to 3 per category per competitor.

5.3
Prints from film, slide or digital images may be home or trade processed in colour or monochrome.


6. QUARTERLY  DIGITAL
and PRINT

 6.1
Not more than 3 entries may be made per competitor per category in each quarter.

6.2
In the event of a club member being invited to judge , said judge and if applicable their spouse/partner, being automatically disqualified from entering into the round they are judging, will be allowed to enter 4 images into each category of the remaining 3 rounds.

6.3
The winner’s plaque for each category shall be retained for that quarter only.

6.4
Entries from this event shall be allowed to be submitted in the Annual Print competition.


8. SET SUBJECT

Davyhulme Camera Club Cup – Projected Images
Frank Hey Memorial Rosebowl – Prints

7.1
The competition subject shall be announced by the committee not less than 9 months prior to the event.

7.2
Entries shall:
(a) be taken following the competition subject announcement.
(b) not have been entered in any other club competition.
(c) be limited to 3 images per competitor per category.


7. RELATED SETS

The Trafford Shield

8.1 
A set will comprise of 6 digital images linked by a common theme related to the title.

8.2 
Entries shall:
(a) be identified by the set title and projection order.
(b) be limited to 2 sets per competitor


9. LANDSCAPE

The Arthur Bowers Trophy – Projected Images

9.1 The subject of landscape shall be given a wide, creative interpretation.

9.2 Entries shall be limited to 3 per competitor per category


10. CLUB EVENTS

Nicholas Wood Trophy – Projected Images
Jack Walters Memorial Trophy – Prints

10.1
Entries shall:
(a) be digital images or prints.
(b) have been taken at the specified club activities (including time and date) as announced by the committee.
(c) be limited to 3 images per competitor per category.
